Comparative Art / Matisse vs. Turner
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page piece on Matisse and Turner that compares the artifice in Odalisque and The Slave Ship. As Matisse's Impressionistic art sought to reflect a lifestyle, so did Turner's Romantic art. The difference being that Matisse was not interested in judgments or making political statements. His interest was in the placing of color on canvas in a certain order. Turner also had this interest, but his comment was political and of mythical proportions. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Comparing The Artistic Modernism Of Pre-World War I Europe To European Modernism In The 1920s
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. The surrealist DaDa movement of post-World War I was the rebellious answer to the social and political nature of battle, successfully crushing the avant-garde period of pre-World War I, a conflict that effectively halted the heady artistic experimentation of prewar Western Europe. Avant-gardist artistry was responsible for the growth of myriad elements of contemporary art, including but not limited to cinema, advertising and newspaper/book publishing. Sadly, as the war passed, so too did many of the artistic personalities of the avant-garde period, as well. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Comparing Three Minimalist Artists
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page paper highlighting the work of Marcel Duchamp, Ulrich Ruckriem and Donald Judd. Of these three artists, it would appear that only Ruckriem is in danger of taking too seriously both his work and minimalist art in general. Duchamp made fun of the entire area of modern art and encouraged others to do the same; Judd even disdained hearing his work called sculpture. They each presented very different styles, both in their approaches and their final work, as evidenced by Ruckriem's concerns of his work being too much for a building to support weighed against the report of Judd's volume of work and wide range of sizes. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

The writer describes Francois Boucher's "The Toilet of Venus" as being exemplary of the Sensibilite Movement while Greuz's "Broken Eggs" is more clearly a work from the Rococo Period.
