A Comparison Between Feminist Views on Art
[ send
me this paper ] A 7 page research paper which examines two
articles. 'Quilts, the Great American Art,' by Patricia Mainardi (1973)
and 'Secluded Vision: imagines of feminine experience,' by Anne Higonnet
(1987) offer two contrasting visions of women's art in the nineteenth
century. On one level the view of each author is essentially the same‹that
view being that a male-dominated perspective on art has failed to
recognize the intrinsic value of the art forms routinely produced by women
as part of their domestic sphere of influence. The writer argues that
Mainardi's article is much more persuasive and that Higonnet's is hesitant
in its conclusions. No additional sources cited. 90maihi.wps Filename:

Robert S. Duncanson and 'The Lotus-Eaters'
[ send
me this paper ] A six page paper looking at this nineteenth-century
African-American artist in terms of the presence of racial motifs in his
art, particularly his painting 'The Land of the Lotus-Eaters.' The paper
presents both sides of the argument, but concludes that Duncanson was
primarily concerned with evoking the beauty of nature, not making a social
commentary. Bibliography lists six sources.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau & His Criticism Of The
Arts [ send
me this paper ] A 3 page essay discussing Rousseau's criticism of
art as something that inherently corrupts civic virtue. The writer finds
that Rousseau is logically fair when he critiques Moliere but finds reason
to debate his denouncement of the theater -- arguing that in his attack on
the arts, Rousseau does actually promotes and endorse certain fascist
ideals of censorship. Bibliography lists 3

Censoring Art [ send
me this paper ] A 5 page paper discussing the problem of censorship
in regards to visual art. The main focus of the paper is the problem
facing our schools art classrooms , with some mention of other types of
censorship evident in the schools. Many parents are arguing that much of
the material that is presented in the classroom is objectionable and
should be removed from the classroom. Other people have complained about
art that has been created by students stating that the art is satanic and
disturbing and should not be exhibited. Censorship, in general, is wrong
and should be opposed. There should, however, be measures taken to protect
those who are offended for not all art is appreciated by everyone.
